How will the films be scored?
Part of the fun of this film project is that the teams don’t know how it is going to be scored until the launch meeting right before the start of the competition. This is mainly so everyone starts on an even playing field. Not knowing what you are going to be scored on makes certain that no teams can preplan their films.
What am I allowed to do to prepare?
You are allowed to gather your team, secure equipment, and any locations you think you might use. While you are allowed to meet with your team to discuss anything you wish, we do strongly suggest not discussing potential story concepts. Teams that come into this competition with a preconceived story idea will have a hard time filling the project requirements.
What kind of film will I be making?
This project is centered around creating story narratives. While fictional narratives are the main focus of this project, you are free to be creative with your approach and try to fit the requirements into a non-fictional documentary. However, this project is not for those who are trying to create an advertisement for personal or business use, motion art, sports showcase, music video of a band, etc. That doesn’t mean you can’t pursue these styles in this project, we just want you to know your film will be judged and scored around criteria of having to craft some sort of narrative.
I don’t live near Hood River. Can I still participate?
Yes! For the first time this year we are setting up the project so people can participate remotely. The launch meeting will be broadcast using Ustream so teams can participate from in front of their computer. And this year we will be accepting films online.

I do live near Hood River. Can I still just participate through Ustream?
You can, though we recommend electing to come to the launch meeting. For those who participate remotely will have to go purchase whatever the required prop is for this year, as well as download and print out the team packet. Things which will be provided for those who attend the Launch Meeting.
06
I have other obligations during that weekend. Can I still do the film project?
The film project is an intense weekend. Most teams find they need every second of that time to get their films done. However, you might be able to make it work depending on who is on your team and what their share of the responsibilities are. If you are the sole person responsible for directing and editing the film, then chances are it won’t work. However, if other teammates can jump in and continue the work in your absence, then perhaps it could. It’s your judgement call to make depending on your situation.
07
How many members can you have on a team?
There are no restrictions on how many people can be on a team. The more the merrier.
